Monterey is the more than appealing location for this year’s ODTUG Kaleidoscope conference (21-25 June). And SOA & BPM is one of the equally attractive focus areas. In the SOA & BPM symposium on Sunday, one of the greatest assemblies of Oracle SOA experts will gather for a day full of experience exchange, future outlook and brainstorming on new technology and new concepts. We will discuss the steps to take for a successful SOA implementation as well as best practices for applying Oracle’s SOA technology. New trends and influences as well as the convergence of SOA, BPM, EDA and other architectural concepts and methodological approaches are topics for exchange of views, ideas and real world findings. We will also take a closer look at the near future: Oracle’s SOA Suite release 11g as well as some of the closely aligned products like WebCenter 11g, the Governance products and the BPM suite.

During the conference proper – starting on Monday 22th June and running through Thursday 25th June – SOA & BPM will be one of the tracks , that will bring around 20 presentations from Oracle ACEs and ACE Directors and other experts on Oracle SOA & BPM technology. These presentations will discuss a large number of interesting topics, ranging from Complex Event Processing and the value of a Canonical Model at the heart of your SOA implementation to the SCA concepts underpinning the Oracle 11g SOA Suite, implementing SOA in a database centric environment and desigining & implementing workflow driven business processes in a SOA infrastructure.

Of course the ODTUG Kaleidoscope has much more to offer besides these SOA & BPM presentations; anyone interested (also) in ADF, APEX, SQL & PL/SQL development, Oracle Forms & Designer as well as Hyperion/Essbase or classic Oracle BI and DBA related topics should come and participate. Not just by attending presentations but also by entering in the discussions and lively exchange of experiences and opinions.

I have attended the ODTUG conference every year since 1997 and it is a yearly treat. The conference is great in terms of the people that attend, the layout of the conference, the opportunities for sharing frustrations, solutions, obsessions, passions and experiences and of course the usually pretty good presentations. I know no conference where speakers and attendees (and this year over 40 Oracle ACEs and ACE Directors) mingle so freely, from breakfast to dinner and later. It is strictly content, hardly any marketing fluff. The small scale allows for real interaction between attendees. All in all – I can really recommend this special conference.

Some more on the SOA & BPM symposium on Sunday: The symposium will start out with an introduction of where we stand with the technology at the very moment. We’ll expect to be able to tell (and show!) you something about the upcoming 11g release of the SOA Suite.

Then we’re off to the real start: using a real-world example we will ask you to actively participate in a workshop determining the best solution for the example. We will then discuss the findings from the groups. We will also show the best practices that we have discovered, around these examples.
