Today, Google, T-mobile and HTC launched the G1, the firt android phone. It’s quite a cool phone, not as good looking as the iPhone, but spec-wise just as interesting. What’s more interesting for Java developers is that it runs Java SE. This is the first phone to break the Java ME barrier. Ok, it is not a complete Java SE, but the main api’s are present.
What’s even more interesting is that is an open phone. Many iPhone developers run into restrictions set by Apple. It is to be expected that Android developers have more freedom.
Any drawbacks? Well, if you think that google is the new Microsoft as The Evil Company you steer away from this handset. But you’re options are limited: Windows mobile may be just as evil, just like apple likes to control the user experience…
