This presentation demonstrates – using a real-world case – how you can migrate your application systems at your own convenience, one or several at a time to the workarea of your choice. It shows how you can repeatedly migrate the same application system, allowing further developments in a Designer 6.0 Repository to be added to the Designer 6i/9i Repository – allowing interrelated projects to carry on in different repositories. It even shows you how changes in the 6i/9i Repository could be replicated in the original 6.0 Repository. The presentation will touch upon distributed and replicated repositories.

The presentation explains the model for Oracle SCM, demonstrate an event- and alert-mechanism for Oracle SCM, introduce a simple engine for calculation of project estimates and tracking of progress. It will show how you can interpret and manipulate the meta-meta data to have Designer jump through your hoops. The recent introduction of the web-based Repository Object Browser (ROB) adds valuable read-only access to Designer and the Software Configuration Manager. This presentation, by the original developer of that tool, gives an overview through demos. It will also let you in on some interesting ways to customize and extend the ROB.

The demand for multilingual support is growing, especially for web applications. Typically, web applications have users all over the world which all have there own preferred language. The location of the installation does not necessarily determine the language the user wants to work in. Offering multilanguage applications on the web will improve the users satisfaction. In addition, multilingual applications can improve the productivity significantly for multinationals as well as companies in multilingual countries such as Canada, Switzerland and Belgium.

This paper will guide the reader through the steps of building a multilingual application with a focus on the translation of the user-interface-text-strings that can be performed with the new Oracle 9iDevelopmentSuite TranslationHub. Moreover, this paper will provide better insight in the various decision-making aspects when working with the Translation Hub. Various other related issues will be discussed briefly to give the reader a completed view on creating multilingual applications with the Oracle 9i Development Suite.

Opening up existing applications for integration with external parties can quite easily be done using XML and Oracle XSQL. This paper will discuss a project that developed an XML interface-for read and write access-around an existing Oracle Forms application. It describes an approach that can be generically applied to other applications, like your own. This paper describes how the XSQL-Servlet can be used in the development of an XML-interface exposing the existing Forms application’s data to external applications. Our client was looking for an automated solution based on open standards for their daily flow of freight orders and consignment notes. Orders were received from customers by facsimiles, then typed into the application by hand and sent by Reports to shipping agents. We decided to use XML and the Oracle XSQL-Servlet to build the interface. Under the covers we make use of Object Views with Instead-Of Triggers.

The paper demonstrates how we built the XML-interface around the existing application, and how you could do the same for XML-enabling your applications. To prove this we will demonstrate how we applied this approach to the creation of an XSQL based utility for viewing our PL/SQL API-documentation, stored in the Designer repository, in a web-browser.

Oracle heeft de afgelopen anderhalf jaar in haar productaanbod grote stappen gezet op het terrein van Data Warehouses en Business Intelligence. Sprekende voorbeelden hiervan zijn de integratie van de OLAP- en Data Mining-engines in de Oracle 9i database, de (her)lancering van Oracle Warehouse Builder, de sterk uitgebreide SQL functies voor ETL en Analytische bewerkingen in Oracle 9i en niet in het minst de BI Beans.

De Oracle BI Beans zijn Java componenten waarmee een ontwikkelaar op productieve wijze Business Intelligence functionaliteit – zoals Cross-tables en meer dan 70 soorten grafieken met ‘drilldown’ – kan inbouwen in applicaties. BI Beans kunnen worden gebruikt in Java Client en Applet applicaties, Servlet en JSP applicaties en ook (Web)Forms applicaties. In dit artikel bekijken we wat je zoal kunt met BI Beans en hoe je in slechts enkele stappen Business Intelligence functionaliteit kan ontwikkelen.
