Currently at Tom Kyte’s session regarding topics new, improved or coming in Oracle Application Development. Tom told about the history APEX has gone thru and the current setup with the APEX Listener and even the “PL/SQL Gateway” was mentioned. I always have to laugh a bit because this last one touches the XDB Protocol Server which can do way more then only this PL/SQL extension for APEX which has been embedded in this XDB Protocol Server framework. There is a APEX book out there that touches a bit the possibilities of the framework, one of the reasons I will promote and explain it a bit more during conferences like UKOUG, because I think its a shame that people don’t know its full potential. Anyway. Tom stressed once again that APEX is a serious environment regarding the huge websites out there based on APEX supporting 1000th of user sessions. Also it nowadays had a better debug support (4.1) and use / support for ROWID, improved data upload and calendar wizard support and redesigned websheets in APEX 4.1.
I never find it very easy to try to capture the atmosphere during a conference, the presenting part, the presentations or the discussions, for example, you could have with the presenters. Hotsos is such a cool and unique event were you have the opportunity, to listen but also to interact. The amount of people that attend isn’t that big, only a few hundreds, but they share all the same passion, the passion to improve on performance, mostly Oracle related. It has only two tracks and its not uncommon that people present and than go afterwards to a presentation to listen in what the other presenter has to say.
Due to the fact that it is manageable in terms of choice, located on a convenient location and well organized, you have the opportunity to pick just the thing you like and most of the time not miss out on “the other” presentation you would have liked to see. Besides that people stay in (overnight in the Hotel), so discussions about the technology, the method or an example during a presentation will be discussed in far more detail than you normally would do, from presenter to presenter or from presenter to the guy that attended and vice versa. The fact that all have the passion More >
We Dutchies are in luck.
Mr. Thomas Kyte will be in Holland on the 3th of November presenting "11 Things about 11g" on the Logica premises during a Logica Guru4Pro event in Amstelveen. Besides this presentation, there will be the opportunity to askTom the questions you always wanted to ask him. You will be welcome from 14:30, and although the annoucement is in Dutch, Tom will present in English and probably also the "askTom" session afterwards will be answered in English.
