A nice summary of the topics of the 2004 JavaOne Conference held in San Francisco (CA), June 28th till June 1st is already presented at the web site. For us the following topics are of special interest.
The 2004 JavaOne Conference Platinum Sponsor session with speaker and Vice President of the Oracle Corporation, Thomas Kurian addressed webservices-based application development, Java and Grid Computing (see Grid computing: Conceptual flyover for developers and/or The Grid: A New Infrastructure for 21st Century Science). All these topics are closely connected, since the Globus Toolkit (from release 3.0 and on) is completely webservices-based, Oracle’s latest version is 10G, in which the G refers to Grid Computing and since most software development in this field is done in Java. This summary addresses all the buzzwords such as MVC architecture, JavaServer Pages and/or JavaServer Faces, Struts, EJBs and web services. If all of this is interesting to you, you may also want to read the report of Dr. Scott Dietzen’s Platinum General Session, chief technology officer, BEA Systems, which was presented on the third day.
Of course, not to be missed is/was the upcoming release of the Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE) Version 5.0 (code name “Tiger”), see this page, which should become available September 30.
