OOW 2012 – The Big Stories
0The show is over, the visitors are on their way home. The process of digesting the announcements, roadmaps and rumors – confirmed or not – can proceed in full swing. What has become of last year’s plans, what are this year’s plans (for next year and beyond) and what has materialized in terms of Oracle’s product portfolio. For everyone, the answers to these questions and the conclusions will be somewhat different – depending on focus, expectations and requirements. However, some conclusions will be shared by most who attended Oracle Open World 2012.
Without a doubt, some of the important themes were and will be: cloud – and at respectable distance – the next generation of database technology (12c) and of engineered systems (Exa… X3-v2), of mobile availability of both standard applications (Fusion Applications and other Oracle Applications products) and custom Portals and applications (through ADF Mobile on iOS and Android)
Facts and OpinionsThe Facts may seem the easy part – since these are more or less objective – but as soon as interpretation and clarification enter the fray , the absoluteness of the facts is not assured. For example around availability: is the Oracle Cloud More >
OOW 2012: Questions to get answered during this conference
0The show of the year is around the corner: on Sunday it will all start again, the Oracle Open World conference. Tens of thousands of developers, architects, administrators, project managers, decision makers and others involved with Oracle products one way or another are gathering in and around San Francisco. AMIS will attend with an 8 person team. We will present, network, publish and investigate. As much as we bring our knowledge and experience to the conference, we also want to find out many things. A quick list of some of the questions that are on the top of my head to get answered during thus year’s conference:
CloudAfter last year’s announcements, we have not really seen any concrete cloud instances from Oracle. I hope to learn during this conference where exactly we stand and are headed with the Oracle Cloud – both the Application and the Platform Services. My focus will be on the latter in particular: what is the functionality and non-functionality offered by the various services – from Database Service to Web Services (PHP, Ruby and Python support) and Oracle Cloud Developer Services Hudson (for continuous integration, Git and GitHub for source control, wiki and tasks for More >
The ADF must-go-to session at OOW 2012: the ADF EMG meeting on Sunday 30th September
0Just like the previous two years, ADF will be one of the major topics at Oracle Open World 2012. Wherever you turn your head, ADF based screens will be right in your face. Almost every UI coming out of Oracle is developed using ADF. And a rapidly increasing number of developers around the world – either with a classic Forms background, a Java/JEE history or fresh from school – is adopting ADF as their primary development framework and churning out new applications in enterprises and government organizations around the world. The advance guard of ADF developers, most of them member of the ADF Enterprise Methodology Group, will convene on Sunday September 30th, on the opening day of Oracle Open World 2012. From 9 AM until 4 PM, Moscone South room 305 will be center of the ADF Universe. Expect every one – from Oracle product manager and ADF engineer, ACE and ACE Director, ADF Developer and Architect – to be there, to share experiences, envision the future and teach each other tricks and insights.
If you have any interest in ADF – because you are already working with it, or are contemplating to start working with it or just want to get a feel for what it is and what it entails to use More >
Forms community event during Oracle Open World: Tuesday, October 2nd – 11.30 AM
0Oracle Open World is around the corner – with all the latest about Oracle products. In het hubbub of the latest and greatest, flashiest and news-worthiest, you may not expect Oracle Forms to play a major role. And to be fair: it will not have a major role at OOW. However, Forms is (still) a very important technology for many of Oracle’s customers and (therefore) for Oracle itself. On Tuesday 2nd October, a special Forms community event will take place at Oracle Open World. Under the theme “What should we do with our Oracle Forms going forward ?“, you are invited to come meet the Oracle Forms product management and worldwide leading Forms experts to answer your burning questions, discuss modernization options and hear Oracle’s vision for system development moving forward, as well as attend two OOW sessions at the beginning and the end of this event:
11:45 AM ”Give Your Forms a Face-lift: Tips and Tricks for Oracle Forms GUI Modernization” by Mia Urman from OraPlayer
in between – we will have an “Ask the experts” Oracle Forms experts panel. Here we will answer questions from the audience with Grant Ronald – Oracle Forms product manager as our moderator and a panel of experts More >
Dinsdag 18 september: Oracle Open World & JavaOne 2012 Preview mini-conferenties – 12 presentaties op 1 avond
The Oracle Olympics
0While watching the London 2012 Olympic Games I was envious at this energetic event with many different areas, people from all over the world and intense exchanges from early in the morning until fairly late at night that is omnipresent in a world city.
Then I realized that I am also part of an international event with participants from all over the world that come together to have interesting exchanges as well as celebrations. It is called Oracle Open World and once every year it takes over San Francisco. It does not have an opening ceremony with Mr. Bean but its closing ceremony – the appreciation event – is certainly spectacular. It does not have as many countries represented – unfortunately. It does not have the notion of competition and the awarding of medals but it does have different topics (streams) and various types of events – from keynotes to birds of a feather sessions. And the distinction between speakers and non-speaking attendees is far smaller than the distance at the Olympics between contestants and spectators.
In addition to the great discussions and exchanges of experience regarding use of Oracle technology, Oracle Open World has given me great opportunities to More >
