Denk niet direct dat je hiervoor te weinig kennis of ervaring hebt: jouw toekomstige ervaren collega’s doen niets liever dan jou verder helpen. Ons trainingsprogramma voorziet in een grote diversiteit aan opleidingen en tijdens onze interne kennissessies kun je op veel terreinen iets van je collega’s opsteken. Forms community event during Oracle Open World: Tuesday, October 2nd – 11.30 AM

Oracle Open World is around the corner – with all the latest about Oracle products. In het hubbub of the latest and greatest, flashiest and news-worthiest, you may not expect Oracle Forms to play a major role. And to be fair: it will not have a major role at OOW. However, Forms is (still) a very important technology for many of Oracle’s customers and (therefore) for Oracle itself. On Tuesday 2nd October, a special Forms community event will take place at Oracle Open World. Under the theme “What should we do with our Oracle Forms  going forward ?“, you are invited to come meet the Oracle Forms product management and worldwide leading Forms experts to answer your burning questions, discuss modernization options and hear  Oracle’s vision for system development moving forward, as well as attend two OOW sessions at the beginning and the end of this event:

Dinsdag 18 september: Oracle Open World & JavaOne 2012 Preview mini-conferenties – 12 presentaties op 1 avond

Van 30 september tot 5 oktober is San Francisco weer het domein van tegen de 45.000 deelnemers aan de Oracle Open World en JavaOne conferenties. Ruim 2000 presentaties worden daar gehouden, in vele tientallen zalen in hotels en het Moscone Conferentie Center in downtown San Francisco, waaronder pakweg 20 door Nederlandse sprekers. Hoewel honderden Nederlandse bezoekers op deze conferentie aanwezig zullen zijn, zijn er natuurlijk ook veel ‘thuisblijvers’. Om deze groep (en iedereen die wel gaat) toch of alvast een voorproefje te geven, organiseert AMIS voor de vijfde keer de Preview sessie voor Oracle Open World en JavaOne – een avond waarop Nederlandse sprekers met een OOW en/of JavaOne verleden, heden of toekomst een presentatie houden, bijvoorbeeld als generale repetitie voor hun optreden in San Francisco.

Deze sessie is gratis toegankelijk. Aanmelden kan via de AMIS website: Preview Oracle Open World en JavaOne 2012. De deuren gaan open op dinsdag 18 september om 16.30, om 18.00 uur is er een maaltijd en rond 21.00 uur eindigen de laatste vier sprekers en openen we de bar.

Reduce occurrence of ORA-04068 while upgrading PL/SQL packages by moving global variables to Application Context

This article will argue against the use of (stateful) global PL/SQL variables – as they are both a potential problem for stateless web applications and the availability experienced by end users during database upgrades.

In various database releases, Oracle did a lot of work in supporting online redefinition of database objects, striving to a reduction of the impact of changes both in terms of unavailability (through locks) and invalidation of dependent objects. When a table is redefined online, it is accessible to both queries and DML during much of the redefinition process. The table is locked in the exclusive mode only during a very small window that is independent of the size of the table and complexity of the redefinition, and that is completely transparent to users. Through fine grained dependency tracking, the number of occasions on which dependent objects are rendered invalid is reduced to those situations where it is really justified. In database releases prior to 11g, object dependencies were managed at the object level, so altering an object automatically invalidated all dependent objects. Compare tables with the minus operator, even if they contain clobs and/or blobs.

I wanted to compare the content of two tables with identical layout quickly with the minus set operator, but ran into a couple of errors, caused by clob and blob colums. As I found out, set operators ( union, minus, intersect ) in combination with clobs or blobs, are not supported, so this explained the problems I encountered.

But there’s a way to use this combination anyway, as long as you’re satisfied with comparing just the first 2000 bytes, and the length of your clobs/blobs.

First of all, to show this work around, I will create some tables containing at least one clob and one blob:

The Future of Forms – presentations and other resources from the May 15th event at AMIS

Tuesday May 15th, Nieuwegein – The Netherlands: During an intense day  and evening, close to 120 Forms developers and architects gathered for discussions, explorations and exchange of experience around the use of Oracle Forms and more importantly: the future of the current Forms applications, Forms-using organizations and Forms developers. Various scenarios, approaches and tools and technology stacks were discussed, hybrid landscapes sketched and pros and cons evaluated.

An interesting line up of international experts on Forms had joined their collective forces and minds to present the most complete overview of the Future of Forms available anywhere in the world today. From relatively new and specialized solutions such as OraPlayer and Yo!Forms to more proven (OraFormsFaces) and mature, architecturally driven future scenarios from PITSS and Oracle Consulting complemented with Forms modernization and integration stories as well as the official strategy from Oracle product management.
