OOW 2011 – On Our Way
Sep 29th
Early mornings…really hate them, but can avoid it this time due to our flight going out towards San Francisco is scheduled at 9.50PM. Oracle Open World is near and a few days away from getting started. Alex, Lucas and I meet up this morning in Schiphol, Hollands main airport for our flight to the ACE Director product briefing at Oracle HQ, that starts a few days before the opening of Oracle Open World.
My Agenda for Oracle Open World 2011
Sep 28th
As the conference draws awfully close, I am trying to compose my final agenda. Some anchorpoints are my own sessions – those I have to attend. Then there is a number of special meetings that I will attend. The number of additional sessions I can just walk into is fairly limited unfortunately, especially after subtracting the time needed for various keynotes and my yearly visit to the demo grounds.
Several key themes during this conference are bound to be: cloud, appliances, Fusion Applications (and now for real), Run Time End-to-End Insight and Administration on technical/infrastructure and business level, business process orientation and some mobile and social as well.
What questions to get answered at Oracle Open World 2010
Sep 17th
The sun is setting in Redwood Shores. The sky is red; the Oracle HQ towers are silhouetted against this dramatic red backdrop. Red, the color San Francisco is about to take on for the Oracle Open World conference.
We are at the end of the first day of the two-day ACE Director product briefing. This is a gathering of the ACE Directors – a fairly select group of experts and community representatives in various areas of Oracle’s product portfolio, including Database, Fusion Middleware, Oracle Applications and various development tools. On the eve of OOW 2010, we get briefed on the strategy for key Oracle products and technologies. A week of announcements and road map presentations has been condensed into two full days. A great opportunity to also plan for the rest of the conference – to learn more about the most interesting announcements of today and tomorrow.
Before today, I had a number of questions on Oracle plans, that I hope to get answered during the conference. These questions are almost like a guide through the conference program and sessions like today’s briefing. Below, I list some of the questions I would like to dive into during this OOW conference, as this will help me plan my next moves and help my customers with their future plans and timelines. Answers to these questions are likely to be discussed on this blog over the new few days and weeks.
OOW 2008 Preview: JHeadstart 11g – best practices, structure & consistency and even more extra productivity for ADF 11g
Sep 12th
One of the theme songs for this year’s Oracle Open World undoubtedly will be ADF 11g. All by itself (Web 2.0) and as the glue for Enterprise 2.0 (WebCenter) and the foundation for Fusion Applications (ERP 2.0?, of which we hopefully will see the first real modules). And one of the singers of that song is Oracle ACE Steven Davelaar who will present the upcoming JHeadstart 11g release. Yesterday at our Oracle Open World 2008 preview, Steven rehearsed his performance, for some 30 interested attendees. Starting back in 2001, JHeadstart 11g follows on a long tradition of packaging best practices for using ADF, providing structure and catering for application wide consistency in page layout and adding to the already quite impressive productivity of developing ADF applications. ADF 11g is very powerful, especially in terms of visual (client) richness. JHeadstart helps to deal with that power, even if you are not already a very experienced ADF 11g developer. Steven hopes for a release of JHeadstart 11g around one to two months after ADF 11g is released, but cannot make any firm commitments

AMIS Query – Preview Session Oracle Open World 2008
Aug 25th
We try to do our best, so some extra practice never hurts. If we think such an event or session can be interesting for our Dutch peers, we call it an AMIS Query. An AMIS Query is an in house event; one or more presentations from our AMIS colleagues or outside specialists from other companies. Everyone can attend and AMIS Query, at least, as long as we can logistically can manage it. Drinks and a dinner are provided during these sessions.
We asked the other Dutch Oracle Open World presenters if they also were interested in such an event and this resulted in the following impressive list:
- Steven Davelaar, Oracle Consulting, Nederland – Oracle JHeadstart R11: Unprecedented Productivity in Developing Best-Practice Fusion Web Applications
- Douwe Pieter van den Bos, Caesar Groep B.V., Technology Manager - Designer2APEX: Migrate Your Forms UIs to Oracle Application Express
- Roel Hartman, Logica – Developing a Real-World Logistic Application with Oracle Application Express
- Ronald van Luttikhuizen en Lonneke Dikmans, Approach Alliance - BEA AquaLogic Versus Oracle Fusion Middleware Shootout
- John Copier, IT-Eye – ESB Central: Applying SOA to Master Data Management in the Dutch Public Sector
- Lucas Jellema, AMIS – Optimal Use of Oracle Database 10g and Oracle Database 11g for Modern Application Development
- Peter Ebell & Lucas Jellema, AMIS – Did We Spoil the End User? Building Personalization into JavaServer Faces Technology-Based Applications
- Gerwin Hendriksen, AMIS – Jumping The GAPP
- Marco Gralike, AMIS – Real World Experience with Oracle XML Database 11g: An Oracle ACE’s Perspective
- Marco Gralike, AMIS – XMLDB: Building Blocks and Best Practices
- Frits Hoogland, Interaccess – Automatic Storage Management
We are still hoping for some extra presentations / presenters to be added on the list. Not everyone from the Dutch presenters could be reached yet, because of the holiday season. So expect one or two presentations to be added on this list. The presentations will be given in multiple session tracks, this because of the amount of participants and time restraints. If needed, we will cut down the AMIS presentations to a total of 3 sessions.
