Laatste “Plug” – Cuddly Toys Not Included – Een AMIS Query met Doug Burns

Donderdag as. is de AMIS Query van Doug Burns over SQL Tuning, gebruikmakend van de Oracle Enterprise Manager (Tuning en Diagnostics pack). Misschien verwachten velen een hoog “DBA” gehalte, maar niets is minder waar…
Deze presentatie bevat bijna geen enkele slides en is echt een aanrader om bij te wonen. Het gaat over kleuren, indelingen, interpretaties van grafieken en er zit een goeie scheut droge Schotse humor in deze presentatie verwerkt. Waarschijnlijk zal Doug ook nog de Real Time SQL Monitoring tool in kleur en geur uitleggen.
Met andere woorden geen moeilijke “DBA” achtige presentaties, maar stof om over na te denken als het gaat over SQL Tuning en de tooling, De Oracle Enterprise Manager (de bij de database meegeleverde DB Console) in dit geval de Oracle 11gR2 variant, die Oracle hiervoor steeds meer navoren drukt op alle mogelijke tiers waar zich Oracle en andere software bevind.

Aanmelden AMIS Query “An Evening With…”: Doug Burns

Op Donderdag 17 juni, vanaf 18:00 uur, zal Oracle Database Expert en Oracle ACE Director Doug Burns(Schotland), een kennisavond vullen met live demo’s op basis van de Oracle Enterprise Manager Diagnostic en Tuning Pack.
Deze bijzondere avond, geheel zonder slides, met de naam “How I Learned to Love Pictures – Oracle 10g/11g Performance Analysis Using OEM” zal alle in en outs van de Oracle Enterprise Manager Diagnostic en Tuning pack in geur en kleur, de valkuilen en de verstopte juweeltjes van de Oracle Enterprise Manager, demonstreren gebruik makend van onder andere Swingbench.
Zelfs mocht de demo’s niet zo gaan zoals gewenst dan nog ben je in voor een goede avond…

On the 18th of June I am very happy to have arranged an internal mini masterclass for my DBA colleagues and some AMIS customer DBA peers. The evening before on the Thursday the 17th of June (btw. no important World Cup soccer games going on during this Thursday evening) Doug agreed to present his “How I learned to Love Pictures – Oracle 10g/11g Performance Analysis Using OEM” presentation, he held, among others, during the Oracle Open World 2009 Unconference sessions and this years Hotsos 2010 Symposium.
If all goes well …
…You will enjoy during this evening a really great presentation on how much information you can get out of those Oracle Enterprise Manager performance diagnostic and tuning pages.

Hotsos 2010 – Presenters, Presentations, Presenting

I never find it very easy to try to capture the atmosphere during a conference, the presenting part, the presentations or the discussions, for example, you could have with the presenters. Hotsos is such a cool and unique event were you have the opportunity, to listen but also to interact. The amount of people that attend isn’t that big, only a few hundreds, but they share all the same passion, the passion to improve on performance, mostly Oracle related. It has only two tracks and its not uncommon that people present and than go afterwards to a presentation to listen in what the other presenter has to say.
Due to the fact that it is manageable in terms of choice, located on a convenient location and well organized, you have the opportunity to pick just the thing you like and most of the time not miss out on “the other” presentation you would have liked to see. Besides that people stay in (overnight in the Hotel), so discussions about the technology, the method or an example during a presentation will be discussed in far more detail than you normally would do, from presenter to presenter or from presenter to the guy that attended and vice versa. The fact that all have the passion for performance or that they realize that performance is a beast with various angles to approach, bounds, and every point, every question is one to be heard and/or discussed. On equal terms. If you have seen my video impressions of Hotsos in 2009, you get a bit of what I am trying to say.
Anyway, not being a native speaker and with my new “flip” at hand (Ultra HD), I just show you how much fun and interesting stuff is going on, probably this will do more right to those presentations than me trying to explain what all those new ideas which were that popped into my head during this years Hotsos Symposium…although…sometimes technology helps and sometimes it just doesn’t…or is it a VMware thing Doug…?
My agenda is not that much different then the one from Doug. The moment it is mentioning RAC related stuff, then I probably would have been attending the other guy.
The Monday started great with a small introduction of Tom Kyte’s generally unknown other qualities…
