I've been working as an Oracle DBA for over a decade now and still loving it ;-) My motto is: If you can't do it on the command-line you shouldn't use a GUI. A respected tutor of mine (PdV) uses: "KISS" and I try to keep that in mind as well (I use it as my SSID at home). I've been working with Linux (or using it) since ~1994 and feel at home in Unix environments. I like to learn new stuff, fidget with my Mac's, read books and much much more.

I’ve been using RAC (10gR2) for years now and I was wondering how RAC One Node differs from RAC. That’s why I used a few ‘old’ RAC servers that we had ‘laying’ around to install a RAC One Node Cluster. I also used that cluster to get some hands on experience with ASM but that [...]

A few years ago I was lucky to be able to start working for a client that has Oracle RAC clusters. There we encountered lot’s of interesting issues, and one of them was that several client applications couldn’t seem to connect to the RAC cluster whenever a service was failed over to an other instance [...]

Recently I found myself in the situation that we had gotten an incident about some application that couldn’t print anymore to the printers it was printing before. This was a big issue and we had to work on it immediately, since it had to be fixed yesterday.
Sounds familiar?

Hotsos 2008, first day of the symposium
Today I had to make some difficult choices: There are too many presentation to see or just not enough
me to go around.
Finally I choose to attend:

The Keynote by Cary Millsap

Semantic Query Optimization by Toon Koppelaars

Leveraging Oracle’s Extended SQL Trace Data to Expedite Software Development by Andy Zitelli

Advanced Oracle [...]

It was supposed to happen in 2007, but due to some private issues I never made it to Hotsos that year. I have been wanting to attend since several years but was not succesfull in talking my (former) employer(s) into it. Actually the lack of growth in a professional way was the reason I switched [...]
