Is Jinitiator going away I am wondering for a long time. Especially now the the Sun JPI can easily be used with Web Forms. My colleague Marco pointed me to this blog of Grant Ronald. Read it and draw your own conclusions.
BI Publisher (named XML-Publisher until a few weeks ago, but what is in the name) offers besides the possibility to create documents also the possibility to interact with the application through its application programming interface. These apis offer the programmer several functions of which the PDF document merger is one. This morning I looked into the functionality this api could offer me in one of my projects for which I need to create a singel pdf document out of multiple documents. How does it work and what do you need to do
Workshop: ADF at AMIS: is it possible for a "classic" Oracle developer to make an easy transition to ADF?
Last week I participated in a ADF workshop given at AMIS by Peter Ebell and Lucas Jellema. "I followed a similar workshop almost 2 years ago. Back then it was related to ADF and Struts and the amount of Java coding for a non Java person was almost too much, well to my taste. Back then I had difficulties to get the complete picture.I asked myself " is it possible for a "classic" Oracle developer to make an easy transition to ADF? (more…)
A few weeks ago one of my customers told me that he lost a sales opportunity because the customer who he was trying to sell his software too had problems convincing his system administrator to install JInitiator. And as we all know it’s often quite a challenge to convince a system admin to install something he does not know and doesn’t want to know. In the real world it is much easier to convince them that the SUN JPI is needed to be installed for your application. In my opinion a loss which was not needed since you can run Webforms without JInitiator using the SUN JPI. How did I know? Well I had read the blog of Wilfred van der Deijl. He has a good blog site called OraTransplant in which he had posted an article on how to use dynamic versioning of Sun JPI and Oracle Forms. My goal was to use the static version of the Sun JPI version 184.108.40.206 My customer sells validated software which complies with FDA regulations therefore I did not think it would be a good idea to use dynamic versioning since JPI 1.6 is not supported yet by Oracle. So what to do: (more…)
This week I have played a bit with XML-Publisher. The goal was take some reports and try to migrate them to XML-Publisher version. Yesterday I posted a blog about how you can setup a matrix report using the proper tags and references. I must say I was very content that it was possible and although it took me some time. After I accomplished the matrix layout the next question came up. How can I display the input parameters of the report in my report? (more…)
Last week I experimented with XML-Publisher a bit. The goal was to figure how to built a matrix report with simular layout as an Oracle Reports matrix report. Would it be easier, better I was not sure but curious to find out. As most developers know building an Oracle matrix report can be painfull when you want to make changes in a later stage to the layout. You realy have to know which frame tp select when you want to change the size of the fields. So what do you need to know and do (more…)
