Very interesting news…. Looks like this opens a new era of applications which could be purpose build for these machines.

Yep, standard Proliant hardware – Intel based processors “which feature industry-standard components including two Intel processors, up to 12 TB of raw storage and InfiniBand connectivity delivering 1 GB/sec of data bandwidth per storage server.”

The first thought came in was this :

SUN added a database product to their protfolio
Oracle addes a database server to their protfolio

This will indeed complicate Partnership with SUN, …

BTW, running on Oracle Enterprise Linux, I may assume, based on the fact that the servers that the Exadata comprises of are Proliant DL -Xeon based- servers?
