Donderdag 31 mei (17.00 uur): AMIS Mini-Conferentie – zes presentaties: SQL Quiz, ADF & Maven, .Net Windows Forms, Oracle BPEL & Workflow, Implementing a SOA Infrastructure, AJAX in ADF Faces

Next month, the ODTUG 2007 Kaleidoscope Conference takes place in Daytona Beach, Florida. 125 presentations on Oracle Development tools related topics – database, SOA, BI, ADF, JEE 5, AJAX, Oracle Forms, .Net – attended by developers from all over the world, at a venue right on the beach: things could get worse! Out of the 125 presentations, no fewer than 9 are to be presented by AMIS specialists (and a 10th by a soon-to-be AMIS colleague). Thursday 31st May, we will present a preview of the AMIS contribution for those of you for whom it is easier to come to our office in Nieuwegein than to travel to Daytona Beach. Since that probably primarily applies to people from The Netherlands, the remainder of this article is in Dutch.

Windows Forms: The Natural Successor to Oracle Forms? – Matthieu De Graaf

Since the release of Oracle Forms 9i the development of the Oracle Forms product is mainly focused on the integration of Oracle in the new, Java-related tool stack.  Although Oracle Forms will be supported for a lot of years to come, it isn’t a good choice for building new applications, so, many customers today are reconsidering their technological choices.  For client/server applications the product of Oracle rival Microsoft can be a good option. This presentation deals with the development of Windows Forms applications on top of an Oracle database from the perspective of an Oracle Forms developer. It focuses on subjects as security, databinding, and the omnipresent dilemma of the location of the business logic.

Just Press Next: Developing an Intelligent User Interface Through BPEL Workflow Tasks Using Oracle ADF – Peter Ebell

BPEL helps bridge the gap between business and technology, allowing us to design and implement processes closely mapped to actual business processes. Some of these processes will, at some point, require a human task to be performed. Oracle BPEL PM implements this through a “task list”. This presentation will first explain and demonstrate the out-of-the-box “Human Workflow” features in the Oracle BPEL. Then, we will discuss a case study where we go one step further and give a BPEL process “real time” control over the page flow in an ADF Web application. The end user is guided through the Web application’s pages specific to tasks in the tasklist, but he never actually gets to see the tasklist. All he needs to do is: press Next.

Oracle SQL and PL/SQL Quiz: Smokin’ Water… – Alex Nuijten & Lucas Jellema

The past two editions of the ODTUG conference the Oracle SQL and PL/SQL quizzes were are huge success, so be sure not to miss this edition. Not only the latest and greatest in SQL will be covered, but also some tales of the unexpected. You will be amazed with the build in functionality that has been around for many years, but equally so with recently added features. Be astounded by puzzle solving queries, the Power of SQL*Plus or data that mysteriously disappears. Even when you think that you know SQL inside and out, you are sure to pick up something along the way. The quiz is for all who use SQL and PL/SQL on a regular basis, developers and DBA. And if you didn’t win the last time, who knows? They say the third time is a charm.

Implementing and Managing an Oracle SOA Infrastructure – Sjoerd Michels

This presentation covers implementation and management of an Oracle SOA infrastructure, how you can leverage your identity management solution, and how security is managed in a declarative fashion using Oracle Web Services Manager. Challenges with respect to release and configuration management in systems that are constructed from a multitude of loosely-coupled services are discussed. In addition, we demonstrate how Oracle’s SOA Suite uses the Ant build tool to automate the software build and deployment process and how you can incorporate this into your own build processes. Finally, we show the advantages of the testing capabilities in Oracle BPEL Process Manager.

Getting the Most Ajax out of ADF Faces: Developing Really Rich Web Applications – Lucas Jellema

Web applications have recently started their second life: Web 2.0, and Ajax is the hype du jour. However, the beef of Web 2.0 is more than just another hype. It is about creating Web applications with the richness of Desktop applications, with fast, interactive responsiveness, functionally rich widgets and dynamically updated, visually appealing pages. This presentation will make JSF Web developers understand the way Ajax has been implemented in ADF Faces and how to make the most of it. It will also discuss the rich UI components that have very recently been released by Oracle—to add the latest generation of widgets such as the Accordion, client-side drag and drop and spreadsheet-style data grids.
