Tonight I completed a paper on using JDeveloper as a tool for Database Design and Generation as well as PL/SQL Development. This paper is in Dutch and will be published in the January issue of Optimize, the Dutch Oracle Professional Magazine. The article also briefly introduces two open source tools for Database Browsing: SQuirreL and TOra (see posts on these tools on our weblog). It also mentions several more.
On JDeveloper the paper discusses the SQL Worksheet (with Explain Plan option) and the Database Browser en Edit Object Wizards. It goes into the Database Design features for Diagrams, Off Line Database Objects, Design Capture, Synchronize and Generate DDL options. It discusses at some length the PL/SQL editor and debugger – introducing the concept of remote debugging. Finally it briefly mentions Publishing PL/SQL packages as WebServices, Loading Java Classes into the database – and wrapping them with PL/SQL package interfaces and finally the Oracle BPEL plugin for JDeveloper.
