I'm using the current (2007) Free EclipseUML version for Eclipse 3.2 (i.e. not the Europa edition) with mixed results (experimenting with class diagrams only). Reverse engineering from Java source doesn't seem to render associations, neither for single member variables (one-to-one) nor arrays or containers (one-tro-many). Informaton relating to this on the Omondo site and forums is confusing and contradictory as to whether this feature is enabled in the free version or not. (The author on this page seems to have successfully rendered associatins, but then he was using a 2004 version.)

Forward engineering of associations works, but member variables are inserted at the bottom of existing code, below existing methods. This is unorthodox and bad style in my books, which makes this feature rather useless.

When enabling Dependencies, reverse engineering ends up producing total spaghetti with multiple dependency arrows between classes, apparently one per function call, local and parameter variable etc. There seems to be no way of taming this behaviour or filtering, not even selecting all or multiple dependencies at once. All I can do is selecting one dependency at a time and hiding it, unacceptable for a real scenario. Disabling dependency wiring in the options doesn't appear to do anything to existing diagrams, so I wonder why this option is there.

What am I doing wrong? As long as these features are not there, and/or not easy to figure out, this packge is too rough to use for me and my students. Any attempt to prove me wrong is appreciated. :-)

Looks like a worthwhile tool, if I can get Eclipse to recognize it. When I enter:
 java -jar eclipseUML_E301_freeEdition_2.0.0.beta.20041026.jar
All the listed files end up in the proper directories (features and plugins), but Eclipse fails to see them. What am I missing?

Thanks a head.

Thanks for your positive feedback!

I coulndn't agree with you more: it took me quite some time to get acquainted with Omondo's UML package, mainly due to their tutorial being insufficiently clear. It is a pity that they didn't improve on it, since it somewhat "hides" the nice product they offer!
